A Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR) search helps people avoid the pitfalls when buying a used car from a private seller.

We’ve developed three case studies to help people understand the importance of doing a $2 PPSR search before buying a car to check if it is safe from possible repossession - even after you’ve paid for it. Common issues that can be a problem include outstanding loans, stolen vehicles, undisclosed write-offs and the ongoing Takata airbag recall.

These resources have been developed to raise awareness about the importance of doing $2 PPSR search when buying a used car.

No matter what you might know about the PPSR, we’d love to hear what you think about these case studies so we can improve and continue to develop useful resources for the community.

Feedback for the case studies closed on the 22 May 2020.
